                                                                            Annotation #2

For my second annotation, I found a video on YouTube that simply interviews college students. Although one may think this is not a “valid” source, I do get to see the opinions and experiences of small group of college students. This video starts off by interviewing students in college. They ask when the students first heard and started using Adderall. Each student claimed their freshman year of college. When students would ask what Adderall was while on campus, the response they received was “a pill that makes you get good grades and makes you concentrate.” Sophomore year, students started really abusing the drug, using it more than for just studying for a test. One student claims that his peers would get prescribed regardless if they had ADD/ADHD or not. Another student claims it is “pretty easy to find on campus, actually.” A young adult even admitted it was “equivalent to getting groceries.” The pill is only one phone call and 3-10 dollars away. The students in this video believe Adderall helps students get through college and does not affect their health. Students call the pill “Steroids for the brain”

The director of the film, David Parfitt, got up close and personal to real life college students and their take on Adderall. I was kind of shocked that they were so laid back about the subject. They treated it as if it was almost less illegal than alcohol or Marijuana. Adderall is a prescription drug, and after this video it is clear that the pill is getting abused. How are students getting ahold of it? Do they campuses know about the rising abuse? Are students becoming addicted? Will there be an Adderall outbreak? I thought it was so interesting that the students treated the topic like no big deal. They seemed comfortable talking about it and weren’t embarrassed that they use the drug. I want to find students who see Adderall as a negative in society.
